[NEWS] BRAND NEW FESTIVAL COMES TO LONDON THIS SUMMER: PIANO PEOPLE IN THE PARK

Piano People announces their first ever outdoor festival in London today, to be headlined by Amapiano super duo, Scorpion Kings.

Following the resounding success of Piano People’s Drumsheds show in November 2023, which saw 15,000 fans unite for the biggest Amapiano show in the world, the game is set to change once again. This summer, the renowned and loved brand introduces the inaugural Piano People In The Park at Southwark Park on Friday 23rd August 2024. The all new one day festival promises to bring unparalleled moments, heat, and an unforgettable groove to London, solidifying Piano People’s reputation as the global leader and game changer for African dance music.

Amapiano trailblazers, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small (aka Scorpion Kings) have been enlisted to headline the show, which kicks off the bank holiday weekend in style. Scorpion Kings have played a huge part in popularising Amapiano beyond South Africa with the genre’s global breakthrough in 2018 and have become known worldwide for being the figureheads leading the way for Amapiano music overseas.

Scorpion Kings said“Amapiano hasn’t even reached its full potential globally, the genre has so many variations that are already crossing over and exploding and we are proud to be a part of pushing the movement forward with the drive of organisations like Piano People. This show is going to be so special as the Scorpion King’s first ever Summer takeover in London this August”.

Outside the home of Amapiano; South Africa, Piano People have hosted some of the biggest Amapiano moments the world has seen, and have quickly built a reputation for capturing the purest and most authentic vibes. Piano People has been instrumental in taking Amapiano to the world and providing a platform for incredible artists such as Grammy nominated Musa Keys, DBN Gogo, and Major League DJz – who closed the monumental Drumsheds show last November.

Also hosting shows internationally, the Piano People stage returns to Afro Nation, Portugal on 26th-28th June 2024. The line-up so far includes the likes of Uncle Waffles, Focalistic, Vigro Deep, Justin99 & Pcee and more, all bringing the vibes to the beach in Portimão, alongside Nicki Minaj, J Hus, Rema, Asake and Tyla on the main stage. Between now and August, Piano People will also be producing more of these events around the UK with ‘producer super-duo’ Mellow and Sleazy – the artists behind the hottest Amapiano tracks ‘Chipi Ke Chipi’ and ‘Imali Khona’ for some unforgettable May bank holiday shows in both Manchester & Birmingham – all building up to another landmark moment for the Amapiano scene, Piano People In The Park this August is set to be the most talked about shows of the year.

Speaking about the announcement and the next big step for the movement, the Piano People organisers said“We’re excited to finally bring the groove outdoors for our biggest show yet. We can’t wait to see the talent come together for such a special show right here in the heart of London. It’s incredible to see this community grow and for London to truly become a second home for South Africa’s most exciting sounds.”Many more acts to be announced soon.
