What five words define your sound?

‘five’ ‘words’ ‘is’ ‘not’ ‘enough’.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

I like to switch back and forth frequently between projects/songs when in the studio or working on music at home. It keeps momentum/energy high.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘Miss Me (Bad Vibes)’.

What inspired you to make that song?

It was the first song I released acoustically, marking a new chapter for Bex. It was inspired by a difficult period, whereby I needed to take a step back from everything.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music? 

‘Lie Low’ is the best example of me being vulnerable while writing a song. It tells the story of retreating, back to basics, while going into detail of the difficult experiences at the time.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

My best and worst experiences on stage happened at the same performance. It was the first time I’d attempted a fully acoustic set, performing my latest and upcoming guitar songs (‘The Acoustic EP’). It was the worst because I was significantly underprepared and would keep messing up the guitar accompaniment. However, I recognise it as one of the best because despite messing up most of the songs, the audience was supporting me fully. This gave me great confidence moving forwards and once again reminded me that with music nothing is as deep as it seems.

What is your favourite song to perform?

‘Uptown’ because it’s the one I’m most familiar with. Meaning I can be more experiential with how I perform it.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

Michael Jackson; The Weeknd, ‘Starboy’.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

Bex separated phonetically reads ‘Be X’, a nudge for people to think about what their ‘X’ would be.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I’d rather not try and imagine.

What’s success to you?

To be happy as much as possible.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

I was close to being dropped from my uni course, when I decided to rethink my whole brand or image. It was the idea of being kicked out of school that showed me how much more I still had in the locker when it comes to musical ability and what I had to offer this world, musically.
