PINK JAGG INTERVIEW: Meet Los Angeles-based brother duo, Pink Jagg. Their sound blends laid-back West Coast energy with a fresh, genre-fluid approach, pulling elements from artists like Anderson .Paak and Kid Cudi. Get familiar…
What five words define your sound?
Poetic, Dynamic, Heavy, Comedic, and Desert.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
The process most of the time starts individually. Brother produces and will either show me or I’ll end up finding it. I write / self record and then once it’s to a place of showing that’s when we collab and really hone in the song as a whole.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
This will probably change since it’s out [laughs] but ‘American Spirit’ for sure.
What inspired you to make that song?
My dissatisfaction with the current landscape of white rappers. My want to quit cigarettes. My love for gaming [laughs].
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
I’m vulnerable in everything I write but if I had to pick. I would say a song called ‘Shotgun’… that one’s not out yet.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
Slim Shady.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
WELL. My name is Jagger. and everyone calls me Jagg. We tried to trademark my name and Mick Jagger’s team came at us. True story.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
That’s a great fucking question. next one?
What’s success to you?
Family… but I think if you ask my brother he’d say… perspective.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
My brother has danced for every top artist in the world. He once told me it would be more fun if we were both up there… I just don’t really dance.
Where can people keep in touch with you?
