What five words define your sound?
Unpredictable, fresh, inspirational, versatile and unique.
Tell me something unique about your creative process?
Believe it or not, I still use a pen and paper to write my songs. It helps me memorise the words better and visualise the structure of the songs.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘Diosa’ from my album ‘EASY MONEY BABY’, is an instant crowd pleaser and clearly one of my most recognisable hits. ‘Girl’ is also another massive hit, where I sampled 50 Cent’s ’21 Questions’. ‘LALA’ of course from my 2023 album ‘LA VIDA ES UNA’, is also already a certified hit, where people all around the world enjoyed that song.
What inspired you to make that song?
‘LALA’ I created with the producer duo Full Harmony during a summer in Spain. I felt very connected to the beat and being in Spain inspired me to make a summer hit.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
When I include people from my team in my lyrics, which reminds me daily that I’m doing this with my crew and people that have been by my side for many years. They are all part of my story as well and are the ones who keep me grounded.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
I don’t think you can call it a worst experience when fans stormed me on stage in Colombia, it just shows how much my fans love me. Some of my favourite experiences on stage are when I bring younger fans on stage and I see the excitement and happiness on their faces.
What is your favourite song to perform?
I like to perform all of my repertoire, since it allows me to be versatile on stage and interact with all kinds of fans. From my raps to the Reggaeton or classic hits, I love to observe the fans’ reactions. If I had to pick a song that I love to perform it would be ‘LA FALDA’ – everybody knows it and sings every word to it wherever I perform.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
I always reference the kings of Reggaeton as my inspiration to pursue music: Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon and Ñengo Flow. All three were part of my teenage years and I listened to them growing up in my hometown.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
Myke Towers is a play on my real name, but a few years ago I decided to switch out the “i” in Mike for the “y”, which refers to the “y” in “Young Kings” which is how I call my fans and my following.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I would probably still be working in the music industry, but not as an artist, maybe as a representative or manager.
What’s success to you?
Having a healthy balance between my work and spending time with my family in Puerto Rico.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
Having a son a few years ago forced me to take a year off, to fully focus on his upbringing and really being there during the early years. I love being a father and he is the main reason I do this.
