MGEE INTERVIEW: VIPER PRESENTS [FEATURE]

MGEE INTERVIEW

MGEE INTERVIEW: Get familiar with one of London’s hottest breakout rap stars of the moment MGEE, whose viral hit ‘LIKE ME’ became one of the fastest-growing UK rap tracks across TikTok and Spotify.

What five words define your sound?

Refreshing, Real, Smooth, Understandable, Addictive.

Tell me something unique about your creative process?

My emotions on the day determine the song that will be made. Usually everything is made from scratch in the session including beat, lyrics and recording. This is to capture the ‘moment’ as best as we can and use our creative emotions to capture similar feelings with the fans and make them understand we relate.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘LIKE ME’

What inspired you to make that song?

It was completely an experiment and I wanted to push myself to try something different, so my inspiration was my own drive to prove to myself that I can do everything.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

During the creative process of my EP – which is unreleased as of right now – I realised that to create a body of work that will resonate with the people, I have to allow myself to become a voice and in that process I had to open a door that I thought was locked completely.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

Eminem was the first artist and loads of his songs inspired me,the old ones. Album wise, Lil Durk’s ‘Signed To The Streets 3’ is what made me want to take it serious.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

The people I grew up with used to call me M, then a few others started calling me just ‘G’  Combine the two and you get the picture.

If you weren’t making music what would you do instead?

I’d try to be a professional boxer, trained for years and was my main passion when I thought music wasn’t possible.

What’s success to you?

Simple, freedom for me and my loved ones.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

I grew up around rough surroundings and had a few problems and I always felt like I was destined for more than this. Still got a long way to go but that’s what made me change.
