Hailing from the Haisla Nation in British Columbia, Canada, Snotty Nose Rez Kids tore into the music scene in 2016 with unmistakable talent and an unforgettable name. Get to know them better with thi VIPER Presents interview…

What five words define your sound?

This is always a tough one. We think a lot about how the songs we’re writing will sound live and for every live show we’re bringing Energy, Energy, Energy. We want people to Vibe to our music, and we want it to be hard-hitting and impactful.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

Our chemistry is one of the most unique things about our creative process. Being able to understand one another in the creative flow and when exploring new ideas and sounds. We really push each other to be great.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘KALEIDOSCOPE’

What inspired you to make that song?

‘KALEIDOSCOPE’ is more of a retrospective track where we reflect on the journey it took to get here.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

‘RED FUTURE’ – we really dug deep for that one. As the title track of our upcoming album, we really wanted to capture everything this next project is about in this song.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Best: Seeing all walks of life in a solid venue vibing with us. Everytime that happens, it’s the best feeling

What is your favourite song to perform?

It’s gotta be ‘Sink or Swim’ or ‘Damn Right’. We always get a mosh pit going for ‘Sink or Swim’ and that song has a lot of energy. Last year that’s how we were ending our show, with that song. The crowd loses it for that one. ‘Damn Right’ is great because it’s got a great call and response hook, and there’s nothing like a crowd screaming your lyrics right back at you!

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

‘The Chronic 2001’ and ‘Eminem Show’ were an early inspiration. Wayne and Mac Miller kept us motivated.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

Growing up, it was just a thing to see little kids, outdoors, playing in the cold and having running noses. We wanted our name to mean something to us and represent who we are and where we came from. We are for the youth! And our name reflects that. This is for all the little snotty nose rez kids out there. We were those kids and now we just want be someone that youth can look up to now and see themselves reflected and we hope that motivates them to continue pursuing whatever path they want.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

From the moment we started this thing, we were all in, no matter what. What would we do instead of music? I guess we’ll never know.

What’s success to you?

To us, it’s being able to wake up every day and make music. It’s also being able to open doors for future generations that want to pursue their dreams. As kids we didn’t have a lot of role models that looked like us. We’re here to break down barriers, and to take our music career as far as it can go. And we can’t wait to see future generations eventually take up the torch and take it to new levels.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

It was the pandemic. We came off 2019 releasing an album and doing 100 tour dates all over the world. We had already started talking about our next album concept, ‘RED FUTURE’, and we had booked a 38 date US headline tour to start in April 2020. The whole tour was postponed again and again until we could finally get back to it, but we went through a lot during the pandemic and it forced us in the direction of postponing ‘RED FUTURE’ and making a different album called ‘Life After’. It’s what was needed for us at the time. ‘RED FUTURE’ is coming this year and it’s unreal that it’s been over four years in the making.

Where can people keep in touch with you?
