Since breaking into New York’s underground graffiti movement in the 70s, Futura has blazed a path to his status as a globally recognised artist and designer. Futura has long embraced collaborations as a disruptive and versatile canvas — with an eclectic body of work that transcends generations. DM’s 1460 boot provides a new medium for his zest and creativity in partnership with his commercial design studio and product brand FUTURA LABORATORIES.
True to his name and unrelentingly forward-thinking, Futura carved out a parallel creative path in the 1980s — alongside his work on canvas that saw him exhibited alongside contemporaries like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Lee Quinones and Rammellzee. In 1981, he went on tour with punk icons The Clash and painted large backdrops live on stage while the band played. Futura later designed album packaging for The Clash, appeared in their music videos and recorded a single with the band as an MC. We’ve partnered with FUTURA LABORATORIES for two innovative twists on our iconic 1460 boot — our tribute to a career defined by a punk attitude that embodies the DM’s spirit.
Up first in this two-part collaboration is a design that celebrates Futura’s integral roots in art. Built from black Nappa leather, the 1460 EMB FUTURA boot is embroidered with artwork that immortalises the defiance of graffiti — based on Futura’s hand style. This monochrome version of our most disruptive silhouette has rebellion laced into every stitch — with black eyelets and welt stitching to contrast Futura’s bold white embroidery. The 1460 EMB FUTURA also features a black and yellow heel-loop and a dual-branded sock liner and stands on a smoke sole.
The second 1460 rework in the collection celebrates Futura’s signature eclecticism and places versatility and movement at centre stage — with a nod to our street-inspired Tract collection. The 1460 FUTURA boot is constructed using an olive ETR 5050 Woven Fabric upper, with an olive Smooth leather ankle strap and printed olive laces. The 1460 FUTURA combines casual materials with our hard-hitting construction — blending signature features of our iconic 1460 boot and utilitarian Combs Tech boot. This new hybrid style is finished with our iconic yellow welt stitch.
