With her freestyles shaking up the UK rap scene, we link with J Onyx to grill her about which mixtape is a GOAT to her…
What’s your favourite mixtape ever?
Wow what a hard question! Let’s say Drake, ‘So Far Gone’.
Why is it so significant to you?
It really spoke to me at a time when I was going through a lot! I was estranged from my family, so this tape and the few people I had around me made me feel secure.
Were there any artists or producers that you discovered through this tape?
No as I was already aware of all the artist that featured on it however, I did discover his producer 40 and I really enjoyed the production on that tape!
Where exactly were you when you heard the mixtape for the first time?
A friend was playing it in my house, I fucked with it so I got it on MP3.
Did it come into your life at a significant time?
Yes, I was living away from family and missing the security we had as a unit and it reminded me of the connection we had, which made me get close with the few I had around me!
How did the mixtape cover make you feel?
It spoke to me, it was about someone chasing their dreams which was an inspiration due to my circumstances at the time, as they were not the best.
Describe the mixtape in three words?
Sick, hard, amazing.
What song is your personal favourite?
‘Say What’s Real’, it’s relatable right from the very first line and aspirational in the same vein!
If you could put a price on this mixtape, how much would you pay?
Can’t put a price on greatness! I feel like this tape is a classic, therefore it’s priceless.
Did you have a physical copy?
No, I couldn’t afford it. I was going through some hard times at that time!
No? Which is your favourite that you have a physical copy of?
To be honest, I couldn;t really afford physical copies at a younger age. So therefore I wasn’t really looking at buying music them times, just streamed as it was free!
