[FEATURE] VIPER PRESENTS: DOODIE LO

Doodie Lo has earned a reputation as one of the Midwest rap scene’s most prolific storytellers. The Kankakee, IL native sheds his tough exterior to showcase his more vulnerable side on his album, ‘What Made Me’. Get familiar with this VIPER interview…

What five words define your sound?

Passion, truth, pain, fun, addiction.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

My creative process is making music for self-help. Making my music is my therapy – sounds, melodies, beats are my therapist.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

      ‘Bald Headed Rich N***a (BHRN)’

What inspired you to make that song?

I was having a good money making day. To be honest, I had just won $10k at the casino and made another $10k doing an Instagram promo post, so I felt like the title of the song that day.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

When I made the song on my new album called ’11 MIllion’.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

The best experience was when I opened up for Durk on The 7220 Tour. First night when we kicked off the show and the reaction I got from the audience amazed me! I didn’t think people knew who I was.

What is your favourite song to perform?

‘Did Sh*t to Me’ featuring Lil Durk.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

Bow Wow. I was a huge Bow Wow fan growing up.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

My auntie Stacy named me that because I was her favourite. Not sure what the term Doodie meant to her, but she coined me that. The fans and my friends added “Lo” at the end of my name.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I would be a Chef. I love to cook.

                    What’s success to you?

Being able to take care and help people in my family when they need me.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

Honestly it’s been a lot of moments. Whether it be that I lost people that I was close to – either to death or jail, or things I’ve gone through in my personal life, all those things not only made me change direction but rather look at things from a different perspective and start acting accordingly.
