CITY SPLASH RETURNS WITH: SPICE, MASICKA & MORE TO DRUM SHEDS THIS NOVEMBER: If there’s one thing City Splash knows how to do, it’s bring Caribbean and African culture into a space and make it feel like the whole room belongs to it.
On Saturday 21st November, City Splash returns to Drumsheds for its third takeover, bringing 15,000 people together across three rooms for a day centred around music, culture and some serious energy.
And with Masicka and Spice leading the first wave of names, this is already looking like one for the calendar.
Masicka has become one of the defining voices of modern dancehall, balancing sharp lyricism with the kind of records that have carried him from Jamaica to audiences worldwide. With tracks including ‘Tyrant’, ‘Moments’ and ‘Update’, his catalogue has no shortage of moments made for a crowd. Seeing him take over one of Drumsheds’ stages should be exactly the kind of energy City Splash was built around.
Then there’s Spice.
The Queen of Dancehall needs little introduction. With more than two decades in the game, a GRAMMY- nominated debut album in 10 and anthems like ‘So Mi Like It’, Spice has remained one of dancehall’s most recognisable and unapologetic figures. Her return to City Splash brings another level of performance, personality and pure dancehall energy to the day.
But the appeal of City Splash has never been about just one or two headliners.
The first wave also brings together Rampage Sound, DJ Nate & English Fire, DJ Larni, DJ Ace, Izzy Bossy, Pioneer, Supa D, Coldsteps & Terminal 4, Nicky Slimting, Jada Pink and Vybz-SR, covering everything from dancehall and reggae to Afro House, soca, R&B and underground sounds.
Rampage Sound arrives with the kind of reputation that speaks for itself, while Izzy Bossy returns as a familiar name within the City Splash world. DJ Nate & English Fire, DJ Larni, DJ Ace and Nicky Slimting bring their own experience from the UK’s club and radio scenes, while Pioneer, Supa D, Coldsteps & Terminal 4 open things up to the Afro House and underground crowd. And that’s only the first wave.
With more names still to come, the lineup already gives you plenty of reasons to start thinking about who you’re going to see, where you’re going to end up and how many times you’re inevitably going to say, “Wait, who’s playing in the other room?”
Drumsheds feels like a fitting home for it too. The industrial North London venue has quickly become known for hosting large-scale music experiences, and with three rooms to move between, City Splash has plenty of space to create those moments where you go in with a plan and completely abandon it by the afternoon.
Whether you’re there for dancehall, reggae, soca, R&B, Afro House or simply because you know City Splash crowds understand the assignment, 21st November is shaping up to be a serious celebration of Caribbean and African music and culture.
And with Masicka, Spice and more names still to be announced, missing this one could mean hearing about the moments you should have been there for afterwards.
