WHYDEE INTERVIEW: London’s WhyDee, an online sensation who has amassed over 3.2 billion views across social platforms. Alongside being a content creator and artist, WhyDee also extends his talent as a producer; producing content for household names including Gunna, Lil Tjay, Central Cee, Lil Baby, Jack Harlow, Sexy Red, Hedex, Tion Wayne, Bad Boy Chillers, Metro Boomin, LeoStayTrill, Chase & Status ft. Stormzy, to name a few! Today he shares with us his favourite mixtape of all time…
What’s your favourite mixtape ever?
‘Wild Wild West’ [by Central Cee].
Why is it so significant to you?
I was a big fan growing up. I think I was around 14 in year nine when it dropped, and everything from the rollout to the branding to the lyrics felt relatable at that time for a young guy.
Were there any artists or producers that you discovered through this tape?
That was the period when I was really getting into production, engineering, and mixing, so I learned a lot from studying the sound of that tape. It also pushed me to explore older Rap and Drill artists, really understanding what made certain styles work.
Where were you when you heard the mixtape for the first time?
In my bedroom at home, watching it on YouTube.
Did it come into your life at a significant time?
Life was tough them times is what I remember, I kept getting kicked out of school, My mum was going through the worst period of her life, facing financial struggles while looking after someone seriously ill. Everything felt heavy. Thank God we came out of that situation.
How did the mixtape cover make you feel?
It was hard. It confirmed that UK artists could move differently, be creative, and stand out with real motion.

Hard, inspiring, UK.
What song is your personal favourite?
‘Sex, Money, Drugs’. Don’t ask me why — I just rate the beat and cause I also produce, I have an ear for a good beat and I can appreciate how different it was with the guitar melody mixed with Drill drums and hi-hats etc.
If you could put a price on this mixtape, how much would you pay?
I’m not sure. Buying tapes etc. don’t make much sense to me when I can just listen for free on YouTube [laughs].
Did you have a physical copy?
Nah, not at all.
Which is your favourite physical mixtape you own?
I don’t own any; I’m Gen Z, so physical copies weren’t really my era.
