[FEATURE] MY FAVOURITE MIXTAPE: PERTRELLI PURPLE

Based in Leeds, Pertrelli Purple is a Musician and DJ describes his sound as “miscellaneous north” based on his accent and the cities he has frequented. His musical journey began at 10 years old when he learned to play guitar before later discovering Grime as a teenager.  Those origins quickly transitioned into making more thought provoking Hip-Hop and exploring other genres as a DJ and producer. With support from community radio station’s; Reprezent Radio and Balamii, Pertrelli has since shifted his focus to his forthcoming project as he looks to cement his name as a well rounded multi-instrumentalist artist.

What’s your favourite mixtape ever?

Damn.. Ermmm, I change my mind a lot but I haven’t heard anything that has topped ‘You Are Here’ by April + Vista for me.

Why is it so significant to you?

It’s just so special the pacing and the journey. Genuinely a project I feel like I can wrap myself up in. It’s taught me and continues to teaches me many lessons.

Were there any artists or producers that you discovered through this tape?

Matt Vista & April. I didn’t know about either of them before this EP and I just ran into it whilst deep in an internet rabbit hole.

Where exactly were you when you heard the mixtape for the first time?

I was living in Bristol and I would’ve heard a song from it on my way to or from work. That’s the only place I ever was.

Did it come into your life at a significant time?

May have found that at one of the bleakest times in my life I was really in my head about what art can be and really viewed music from such a rap and lyric stand point, I’d say at the time it freed me. It even dropped on a super significant day in my life, it’s crazy.

How did the mixtape cover make you feel?

Warm. But like a rewarding warm like a resilient warm, the warm you can only really achieve when you find shelter during a winter night. I tried to recreate the artwork back then in my own way. It didn’t work really.

Describe the mixtape in three words?

Dense, Delicate, Cleansing.

What song is your personal favourite?

Every single song has been a favourite of mine at one point or another. I gave it a fresh listen right now and going to go with ‘Fo’sho’

If you could put a price on this mixtape, how much would you pay?

I dunno £0.00. I think money and music have a weird relationship so I wouldn’t say paying loads means it’s worth more at all. But like… In real life as high as £70 because it saved me but I am not rich yet.

Did you have a physical copy?

Aaaaah! I fell in love with it before I started my collection so you’re making me realise I need to get it truthfully.

No? Which is your favourite that you have a physical copy of?

I’d say my fave that I own currently is Slauson Malone’s ‘Crater Speak’. Thanks for having me!
