CREP PROTECT SPONSORS ONE WAY NORTH: DR SARAH RUGGINS TACKLES ULTIMATE 6,000KM CYCLING WORLD RECORD

CREP PROTECT SPONSORS ONE WAY NORTH WITH DR SARAH RUGGINS – The Olympic hopeful turned endurance cyclist is pushing human limits from Spain to the Arctic Circle, backed by ultimate sneaker care innovation.
There are endurance challenges, and then there is the One Way North challenge. On 5 June 2026, Dr Sarah Ruggins set off from Tarifa, Spain, embarking on a gruelling bid to break the world record for cycling from Europe’s southernmost point to the icy peak of Nordkapp, Norway.
We are talking about a mind-boggling 6,000km distance to cover in under 17 days. To smash the current record of 16 days, 20 hours, and 59 minutes, Ruggins has to push past human limits, cycling over 500km every single day. Her schedule demands more than 21 hours in the saddle daily, running on less than 90 minutes of sleep, whilst battling extreme temperature swings from a scorching 35°C in Spain to a freezing -10°C inside the Arctic Circle.
A Journey Defined by Resilience
Ruggins is no stranger to overcoming the impossible. Once an Olympic hopeful, her life shifted completely at age 15 following an autoimmune diagnosis that left her hospitalised. She had to relearn how to walk and use her hands from scratch. Rebuilding her physical and mental strength block by block, she turned that recovery into elite athletic dominance.
Last year, she made history by becoming one of the few women to claim an endurance world record over male competitors, conquering the length of Britain and back a massive 7 hours faster than the previous record, which had stood for nearly a decade.
Now, her sights are locked on Europe.
“What drives me as an athlete is not achieving world records (though that’s always nice!) – it’s about going to the edge (physically and mentally) and learning what lives there,” Ruggins says. “It’s showing that women don’t need to wait for an invitation – we can enter the room like we belong, because we do.”

Support That Goes the Distance
An extreme feat like this requires gear that simply cannot fail, which is why sneaker lifestyle giants Crep Protect have stepped up as the official title sponsor for the challenge.
Whilst known globally for keeping footwear immaculate, the brand is supporting Ruggins’ technical performance on the road. She is riding equipped with Crep Protect’s signature Gel Insoles, engineered for maximum impact absorption and long-lasting comfort across those relentless 500km days.
“For me, minor instability in the foot can lead to hotspots, numbness, or inefficiencies that travel up my legs and cause pain,” Ruggins explains. “Proper insoles help me (or anyone who spends long hours on their feet!) avoid these issues. The Crep Protect Insoles help eliminate sources of discomfort, giving me the best possible chance to stay strong, efficient, and focused for the long haul.”
Powered by Community
To prep for this monumental ride, Ruggins’ routine involved five hours of daily cycling paired with heavy gym sessions 3-4 times a week. But beyond the physical training, she attributes her strength to the network around her.
“They say behind every successful person is a community, and my entire life is proof of this,” she notes, highlighting the charities that aided her recovery as a teenager, her career mentors, and her dedicated 12-person support team. “They have come together to help me set another precedent not just for women in sport, but for sport.”
By discovering her passion for cycling, Ruggins has rewritten the rules of what the body can endure, inspiring a whole new generation to redefine their own boundaries.
