What five words define your sound?
I’d say my sound is natural, Afro-inspired, spiritual, soulful, and groovy. It’s music that carries energy from my roots, while still speaking to universal emotions.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
I work really closely with my producers, they play a beat and I let it move through me, and I let that flow guide the lyrics and melodies. My process is less about control and more about allowing the music to speak through me.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘Awolowo’ will always have a special place in my journey. It introduced me to a wider audience, but more importantly, it connected deeply with listeners in a way I couldn’t have imagined.
What inspired you to make that song?
Nature grounds me, and I often draw inspiration from it — the stillness, the energy, even natural herbs. They remind me to stay rooted and allow creativity to come from a pure, centred place.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
My music is always personal. It carries my heritage, my struggles, and reflections on my family and loved ones. Opening up about those truths in my songs is where my vulnerability meets my strength.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
One unforgettable moment was performing ‘Awolowo’ when a fan shouted that I was a “one-hit wonder.” That could have broken me, but instead it lit a fire. It challenged me to prove my resilience, and every performance since has been about pushing past that perception.
What is your favourite song to perform?
‘Joy Is Coming’. It’s uplifting, it carries hope, and when the crowd sings it back to me, it feels like we’re all encouraging one another.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
D’banj was a major influence. His energy, persistence, and impact showed me what it means to command a stage and build a legacy.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
My given name, Olayemi, means “Wealth suits me.” It’s not just about material wealth — it’s about richness in spirit, culture, and purpose. That’s the journey I’m on.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
Truthfully, there is no Plan B. Music is not just something I do — it’s who I am. It’s music or nothing else.
What’s success to you?
For me, success isn’t just about charts or numbers. It’s about reaching my goals, inspiring others, and leaving behind a legacy that lives on through the music.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
I’ve never needed a push or change of direction — music has always been a calling. From the beginning, I knew this was the path, and every experience has only reinforced that truth.
