What five words define your sound?

Nostalgic, Spacey, Dreamy, explorative, R&B.

Tell me something unique about your creative process

When I’m inspired to record, I can’t stop my inspiration and have to either write or create immediately. I have dreamt songs and woke up immediately to write them/get them down before I forget.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

Either ‘Obsessive’ or ‘Shirt Off Outside’ (Live version).

What inspired you to make that song?

Real life romantic experiences.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

I’m always completely vulnerable when making music, which I think is a super power. I don’t hold back in any song i create. However, ‘bathroom floor’ was one of my most vulnerable.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Best: I think my best and most memorable experience was when I dropped my first project and people were singing along to the lyrics. I was in Memphis, TN then and it’s something I’ll never forget. I haven’t had a terrible experience that sticks out.

What is your favourite song to perform?

‘Missing U’

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

Janet Jackson’s live concert in Hawaii made me want to make music

What’s the meaning behind your name?

It means I’m a friend for girls, guys, or whatever person that wants to listen to me. When you think of a girlfriend, you think of someone who it’s affectionate, someone who will take care of you, or someone who will feed you (literally or spiritually). I use my music as a safe space to be that for anyone who listens to me consistently.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I’d probably be still working a corporate job somewhere, working as a therapist, or compiling some sort of psychological research still!

What’s success to you?

Doing what I love for a living with the support of my family and genuine friends. Also being able to touch even one person with my music.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

I realised I would never be happy if I didn’t do music every day.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Girlfriend.____ ( that is 4underscores)

@girlfriend.__
