What five words define your sound?
Raw, authentic, introspective, expressive, Scottish.
Tell me something unique about your creative process
My creative process is unique because I focus on capturing real, raw emotions. I draw inspiration from my life experiences and use music as a way to express those feelings authentically. I never force the process; it flows when it feels right.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
I’d say start with ‘VANTA’.
What inspired you to make that song?
The track blends UK Rap with soulful and ambient undertones, creating a vibe that feels like late night city drive with no particular destination. It’s inspired by the constant pull between indulgence and the pressure to stay focused. The song captures those moments when you’re caught up in the quick pleasures, trying to escape the tension but also navigating life’s distractions. It’s about balancing that rush with the need to keep your head straight, even when everything around you seems to pull you off course.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
The most vulnerable I’ve allowed myself to be in my music was during the creation of the last three songs on my debut EP, ‘Losing Focus’. I really opened up about some heavy topics like acceptance, mental health and my past relationships. In particular, I got raw about a difficult relationship with my dad. Writing those songs forced me to confront a lot of emotions I’d kept hidden for a long time. During the process, I learned how to not be afraid of showing my emotions and being fragile. It was an important step for me in becoming more honest with myself and with my listeners.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
The best experience was at my sold out Scottish tour, the Glasgow show particularly. It was a great feeling have a room full of people singing your songs back at you. My worst experience has to be falling off the side stage in front of 500 people. I managed to save myself though but it still haunts me [laughs].
What is your favourite song to perform?
‘One Time’ – the energy is always amazing.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
Kendrick Lamar is the reason I started making music. When I first heard Kendrick Lamar, it felt like something clicked for me. His music wasn’t just entertainment; it was real, raw and deeply introspective. The way he was able to blend complex storytelling with social commentary made me realise that music could be an escape. Kendrick’s lyrics made me reflect on my own experiences and that connection was the spark that made me want to start creating my own music. Kojaque’s ‘Phantom of the Afters’ album made me fall back in love with music at a period where I’d lost myself. There was a time when I was feeling disconnected and unsure of myself and music just didn’t hit the same way it used to. But then I found Kojaque’s album and it really pulled me back in. It reminded me that it’s okay to be vulnerable and it gave me the confidence to put my own emotions into my work again. The album brought me back to myself and it was the push I needed to reconnect with my music.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
The meaning behind my name comes from a simple answer to a common question. People would always ask me, “Who is Harry?” or “Who are you as an artist?” I’d always respond with, “I’m JusHarry.” It’s a straightforward name, but It’s about being real, being myself and not overcomplicating things.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
If I weren’t making music, I honestly don’t know what I’d be doing instead. Music is everything to me, it’s the only way I know how to express myself and the only thing that really feels right.
What’s success to you?
Success to me is being able to tour the world with my music and connect with amazing creatives along the way. For me, it’s about building a community of people who understand and appreciate what I do and collaborating with others who inspire me. Success also means having the financial stability to take care of my family and make sure they’re safe. I want to be able to live my dream while providing for the people who have supported me throughout the journey. Its not about fame or accolades — it’s about making an impact.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
The moment that forced me to change direction in my life and career was during COVID. I was going through a tough breakup and felt completely lost. Being from the outskirts of the north of Scotland, I didn’t have much in terms of resources or opportunities. I started writing music as a way to process everything I was going through. Despite the lack of resources, I made it work and that period became the catalyst for everything I’m doing now.
