LORRY INTERVIEW: VIPER PRESENTS [FEATURE]

LORRY INTERVIEW

LORRY INTERVIEW: 18 year old rapper and music producer Lorry hails from South London. After releasing his debut single ‘I’m here’ in July, he’s keeping new sounds coming for 2025. Get familiar…

What five words define your sound?

Original, Unique, Diverse, Interchanging, Fresh.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

The process is different every time but it usually starts from a random idea or lyric I think of while I’m out and write it down in my notes. I also record 90% of my songs on my own at home so I guess that’s kind of unique compared to being in a studio with a whole team of people around.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

I think ‘Im Here’ would be a good first listen of mine because you instantly get the vibe and energy that I’m trying to portray with my sound.

What inspired you to make that song?

The inspiration behind that song was just everyday life of being an artist but also living normally and spending time with the people around me so it’s got a relatable feel, but is also personal to me; talking about my goals and what I enjoy.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

I think the most vulnerable I’ve allowed myself to be when writing and making music is in the studio working with different producers and creatives, allowing myself to experiment with different styles and ways of creating that I might not have explored before.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Luckily, I haven’t had many bad experiences of performing yet, but the worst was probably just down to technical issues. One of my best experiences performing was one of my first few times on stage, and was at an event put on by Yeah Youth – an amazing youth project I attended which is run by Capo Lee and Shay D – It was a showcase for some of the artists who were involved with the project. There were a mix of people who knew my music, people who knew me and people who didn’t and the energy was high – so it was cool to showcase some of my unreleased music at the time and get that initial live reaction.

What is your favourite song to perform?

I think ‘Im here’ is my favourite song to perform – its catchy chorus gets people involved, singing along and the energy going.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

I don’t think I really have a specific album or artist that inspired me to make music but I think I take inspiration from all the different types of music I listened to growing up . An album that inspired me to experiment with different sounds and get out of the box of your typical ‘UK rap’ is Jevon’s ‘Fell in love in Brasil’ – I think the way he maintains his prominent London roots in the bars but mixes that with his Brazilian heritage on the production just creates a unique sound that people haven’t really experimented with before.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

Lorry is just what my family has always called me, short for Lawrence.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

If I wasn’t making music right now, I think I would definitely still be involved in something creative, weather in events, design or fashion I would still have found a way to express myself creatively.

What’s success to you?

Success to me is creative and financial freedom for me and the people around me. Making music for the rest of my life, developing my sound by finding new styles and getting to work with all different artists and musicians. I also want to be able to benefit others and open my own sort of Youth organisation that helps young creatives explore their craft and also make opportunities for people who don’t know how to.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

I think I’m still yet to experience a moment in my career that forces me to change direction but for now I’m keeping locked in on my upcoming project for the year and trying to maximise all my opportunities.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

You can follow me on Instagram & TikTok – @lorry.mp3, I have lots of music on the horizon.
