POP MART MAKING 1000+ DAILY SALES ON STOCKX: Chinese collectibles brand Pop Mart has taken over the digital zeitgeist with their ‘blind boxing’ videos and coveted drops. Founded in 2010 in Beijing, China the brand has collaborated with popular artists and K-pop stars such as Hello Kitty and Pucky adding to its global appeal. It rose to the mainstream in 2024 after K-Pop star Lisa from BlackPink was seen accessorising her bag with the limited Labubu pendant.
In the United States and Europe, Pop Mart’s figures have found a niche following in the art toy and designer toy scenes. The “blind box” format also appealed to collectors in these regions, with fans sharing their unboxing experiences on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, which helped the figures go viral. On Tiktok under #Labubu there are 945k posts, as well as #Popmart having 770k, the unboxings are fan favourites with millions of views across all posts and platforms.
On StockX, Popmart has become the 2nd most traded collectible brand, with the brand averaging 1,000 daily sales in January. They went from less than 100 trades in 2023 to tens of thousands in 2024 and grow each month due to Labubu’s success. StockX’s Merchandising Director, Drew Haines commented “I can’t get away from it on social media – I scroll and all I see is Labubu unboxings and videos of people lined up around the block at Pop Mart stores across the world”.
