What five words define your sound?

Different. Honest. Fun. Relatable. Genreless.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

My writing process is always different. Sometimes I freestyle, sometimes I write out my lyrics and other times I’m writing songs randomly throughout my day.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘It don’t hit no more’ is one of my favourites. I feel like it encompasses my sound the most, even though I have a lot of different pockets.

What inspired you to make that song?

Being over and done with someone. When I’m mentally out of a relationship, it’s like everything they do turns me off [laughs].

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

When I made ‘I cry too’. It’s about admitting that I go through things and I hurt sometimes, which I try not to always show. I would say that song was real honest about how someone made me feel.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

The best experience I had on stage was when I did my own headline show at the Foundry in Philly. After I walked off stage, the crowd did an encore so I came out to do one more song. It was fire seeing people want to hear me sing my songs, especially my first time doing something like that.

What is your favourite song to perform?

‘Not Enough’. I love, love, love the hook on that song and the arrangement my band does with it.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

I feel like an early album for me I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from is Katy Perry’s ‘One of the Boys’. I grew up listening to that a lot.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

My real name is Nyla, and when abbreviated, it forms ‘NY- LA,’ which is the inspiration behind “N3WYRKLA (pronounced New York-LA).”

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I feel like I would own a restaurant or something. I love to eat food!

What’s success to you?

Being happy with my career and choices in life. Success is being able to live my life freely.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

When I was in college, I was going to school for pre-law. I ended up realising I wasn’t passionate about it and didn’t want to get stuck doing something I didn’t love, so I transitioned to making music.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

On all streaming platforms and socials @n3wyrkla !!!
