With his song ‘Kehlani’ becoming an instant hit, Jordan Adetunji needs little introduction. With Kehlani hopping on the remix, we spoke to the Irish-Nigerian artist. Get familiar…
What five words define your sound?
Alternative, smooth, melodic, memorising, raw.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
I freestyle every melody and put words according to it. I also write and record myself.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘Kehlani’!!
What inspired you to make that song?
When writing this song I was watching an interview of Kehlani that she did with impulsive and thought, wow she looks amazing. And my idea for a song was to write about a beautiful strong woman that’s also a boss and really leads her own thing and stands on what she believes in. Kehlani was the perfect representation of that.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
When writing my song ‘insecure’, that was me being venerable in that writing process.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
The best experience I have was going on for first time and audience singing most the words at my headline show in London.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
Micheal Jackson, ‘Invincible’.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
This is my ethnic Nigerian name. It means the return of the crown.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I would be playing video games or skateboarding.
What’s success to you?
Trying. And achieving goals.
Where can people keep in touch with you?
@JordanAdetunji every where on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
