PRESS RELEASE – LACOSTE TAKES OVER SELFRIDGES’ SECOND FLOOR ATRIUM, WINDOW VITRINES AND ALTO BY SAN CARLO ROOFTOP RESTAURANT AND TERRACE
Today, Lacoste has unveiled its takeover of Selfridges’ second floor atrium, select window vitrines and immersive Le Club Lacoste at Alto by San Carlo rooftop restaurant and terrace.
To mark the start of a celebration of sport this summer at Selfridges, Lacoste honours the timeless elegance, energy and dynamism of tennis that sits at the core of the brand’s DNA. Using the texture and graphical qualities of the grass courts as a starting point, Lacoste transforms the traditional tennis landscape into a visually playful and captivating experience, honing in on the essence of movement.
In a global retail exclusive, Selfridges’ second floor Atrium space will also play host to Lacoste’s brand new runway collection, the first to be designed by newly appointed Creative Director Pelagia Kolotouros. Showcased on the runway at the iconic Roland Garros stadium in Paris, the collection embodies French elegance with a playful flair with strong tailoring, oversized outerwear, neo-bourgeois silk scarves, silk pleating, crisp lines and sharp graphics play up the dialogue between fashion, sport and – particularly – art, which is as central to today’s creative scene as it was in René’s day.
At the core of the takeover is the immersive Alto by San Carlo rooftop restaurant and terrace – renamed as Le Club Lacoste. Drawing inspiration from the tennis legacy intrinsic to the French fashion sport brand, the lines of the tennis court become the forces that manipulate and distort, interconnected literally and graphically, to create a textural and graphic visualisation. Lacoste creates an atmosphere that exudes sophistication and modernity, while still paying homage to the sport that inspires us. A tennis-inspired menu created in collaboration with Alto by San Carlo comprises bespoke Lacoste cocktails including the Rene, Cucumber Deuce and Match Point Spritz.
In addition to the rooftop restaurant, Lacoste has also taken over Alto by San Carlo’s rooftop terrace, showcasing live tennis matches from digital screens. The space also plays host to a Lacoste archive, featuring reference images from René Lacoste’s significant tennis career and the first-ever Lacoste polo.
As visitors enter Selfridges, Lacoste’s central window vitrines convey the purest exploration of geometry with an abstract sculptural expression that distorts the textured grass court into a dynamic sculpture.
Lacoste’s takeover of the second floor atrium, selected window vitrines and Alto by San Carlo rooftop restaurant and terrace, will be open from today until 21 July.
