What four words define your sound? 

Emotive, Sassy, Soulful, Vulnerable.

Tell me something unique about your creative process  

My writing process really depends on the vibe. Sometimes I write, sometimes I don’t and just freestyle. Sometimes I write the entire song days ahead and sometimes I write at the studio as I go.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

I think ‘Let it go’ is a good introduction to my music.

What inspired you to make that song? 

A lot of toxic relationships and realising there were a lot of things that I needed to let go of. 

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/makingmusic? 

I think the most vulnerable I’ve been when writing music has been with my latest album ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome’. I put a lot of my personal experiences into the lyrics and music.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?  

One of the best experiences I’ve had on stage was when I was in North Carolina opening up for Anne-Marie and the crowd would not let me leave the stage. I remember I was leaving the building after I performed and they stopped me and called me back on stage and it was just very cute and so wholesome. One of the worst performances that I had, I wouldn’t necessarily say it was bad, it was just really intense. I was performing and somebody in the crowd passed out and I had to stop the show and get them some water and somebody had to carry them out of the show; that was really intense.

What is your favourite song to perform? 

My favourite song to perform is ‘rich girl’ because I think it really gets the energy in the crowd going. I think it’s a very empowering song and it always is a high point in my set.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music? 

I think one of the most inspiring songs that sparked, my love of music would have to be ‘Remember the Time’ by Michael Jackson.

What’s the meaning behind your name? 

There really isn’t much meaning. It’s just my legal birth name. Journey is my first name and Montana is my middle name.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead? 

If I wasn’t making music, I would probably be acting full-time or doing Broadway.

What’s success to you? 

I think success is meeting the goals that you set for yourself and finding happiness.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction? 

I think when I got signed, it forced me to take my career a little bit more seriously and see it a little bit more like a job.
