Severe, Calculated, Authentic determined and thorough.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

Boredom is one of the greatest blessings I have. It allows me to create masterpieces that I might not have been able to produce had I tried to force them. I simply ensure that I am alone and not preoccupied, and then everything seems to come together perfectly.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first What inspired you to make that song? 

The song is called ‘Amai’ which was a song I wrote for my mum showing appreciation and apologising for my stubbornness and growing up as a naughty child and getting expelled from high school. 

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music? 

I try to be as open when I create, to experience all of me. I have made songs that had me in tears, and some had me seeking professional help, but now when it comes to releasing this content is where I must regulate. Which goes to say I create for me, and then from that abundance, I share what I am comfortable with.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Years ago performing a new song, party people I forgot a few words on the stage. Fans didn’t notice but it got to me and spent weeks feeling unsure about my craft and myself thinking why wasn’t I ready and that I should have done the adequate preparations. 

What is your favourite song to perform? 

My favourite song to perform is ‘City is Mine’ because of the energy, punchlines and it’s one of the fan’s favourites. 

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music? 

There’s a few albums that made me feel for the art of Hip Hop. GZA – ‘Liquid Swords’, Snoop – ‘Doggystyle’, Funk Master Flex’s – ’60 Mins of Funk’, DJ Clue – ‘The Professional’, Raekwon – ‘Only Built For Cuban Linx;. These albums had a great impact on me becoming an MC. 

What’s the meaning behind your name?

Rhyme Assassin came from combining the word ‘rhyme’ which has to do with the poetic expression of my lyrics while ‘assassin’ is indicative of the creative talent with which I execute the art.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?  

I would be miserable because, with all the other pursuits I have, I still find that child-like fulfilment when I create. After all, the music also allows me to experience myself and learn from a psychological perspective.

What’s success to you? 

Success is all about self-progression to me, so long you are better than what you were yesterday they you are being successful. We face a lot of challenges in life but it takes courage to pick yourself up and keep moving, so long you are better than yesterday that’s success. 

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction? 

I had two wake up calls in life first was the time I got expelled from high school for misconduct and when my daughter was born. These moments had me reflecting on who I was and who I wanted to be.
