[FEATURE] MY FAVOURITE MIXTAPE: SEAFOOD SAM

Following the release of his new album, ‘Standing On Giant Shoulders’, Long Beach artist Seafood Sam stops by to tell us all about his favourite mixtape….

What’s your favourite mixtape ever?

Wiz khalifa’s ‘Kush & OJ’.

Why is it so significant to you?

Before this project music was a hobby… after hearing this project I started taking everything more serious. 

Were there any artists or producers that you discovered through this tape?

Cardo. It’s a full circle moment… I have a few songs in the cut with him right now.

Where exactly were you when you heard the mixtape for the first time?

I believe we was “hotboxin” in my old hand-me down Honda after school one day… we listened to the whole project top to bottom and after that it was on repeat constantly, he had everybody in the school yelling “Taylor Gang.”

Did it come into your life at a significant time?

Yeah, it was right towards the end of high school.. I wasn’t into books so college was a no-go for me and being captivated by the whole movement/sound, my mind then crafted this goal that I’m currently chasing. 

How did the mixtape cover make you feel?

I thought the cover was fly …and later on finding out that he flipped the David Ruffin ‘Gentleman Ruffin’ cover… made it even cooler, seeing how he was paying homage cause the music captured the same energy David Ruffin was putting out on his project.

Describe the mixtape in three words?

Classic. Smooth. Player. 

What song is your personal favourite?

Depends on the time of day but it’s definitely between ‘Visions’/’Mezmorized’ and ‘The Kid Frankie’.

If you could put a price on this mixtape, how much would you pay?

Can’t say cause I already got it for free. But It’s definitely a masterpiece so whatever price tag was on it, I would have purchased with no problem.

Did you have a physical copy?

Yes, I have the project on Vinyl.
