TYTUS INTERVIEW: Tytus is a dynamic rapper and singer hailing from East London, Newham. Known for his distinctive sound, he blends the influences of his heritage and urban upbringing into a genre-defying style. Get familiar…
What five words define your sound?
Euphoric, resonant, dynamic, soul stirring, melodious.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
I treat music like a living canvas, where every lyric paints a part of the story. My process is about feeling the emotion first, then shaping it into something others can hear and connect with, I love creating.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘Katrina’ is my next single coming out in Valentine’s Day, it’s a bubbly melodic song for the ladies with inspiration from artists like Cash Cobain with the sexy Drill genre.
What inspired you to make that song?
Just my relationships with some of my female friends. I wanted to make a song about all of them combined together and about my different experience with them.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
Music is about embracing imperfections because that’s where the real music happens.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
I haven’t really had a worst experience on stage to be honest, I find performing refreshing and fun. It only get a little jarring if you’re on tour and your performing the same songs for a few days. But my best experience has to performing at Wireless back in 2018. Having thousands of people jump, bounce and sing your lyrics to your face is truly priceless. It’s still one of the best days of my life up to today.
What is your favourite song to perform?
When it comes to big crowds and festivals, my favourite song is probably ‘Gangland’. It just gets the crowd jumping and moving like no other and that’s what we want, mosh pits and vibes!
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
Growing up I always listened to Grime and also American music. My favourite UK artist was Skepta, he always inspired me to make music. His album ‘Blacklisted’ made me want to pursue my career in music.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
I chose the name Tytus because it means ‘to honour’ in Greek and for me, music is about honouring emotion, experience and authenticity. Every track I create is a way to pay respect to the raw, unspoken moments that shape me.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I’ll probably still be doing something creative. I’m very hands on when it comes to my own projects, I like to get involved with producers, directors or whatever it may be and really bring my ideas to life.
What’s is success to you?
Success to me is freedom and happiness, those things are priceless. True success is about living life on your terms – having the freedom to create, to grow and to choose what brings you joy in life.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
Going though certain experiences really shaped me into the man I am today and as painful as it could have been I’m grateful for those experiences because it only been growth and elevation ever since. I truly believe I’m becoming the best version of myself. From already going crazy in the scene back in 2017 to now pursuing as solo artist I’m excited for what the universe has in store for me.
