Catch got people talking earlier this year with a viral video displaying her effortless freestyle ability. With her name steadily rising through the UK Drill scene, we spoke to Catch about her style and what success means…

What five words define my sound?

Raw, Hard-hitting, emotive, witty, catchy.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

I like to be alone when I’m writing new music, just me and the beat. No outside noise, no distractions. I like to fall in love with it first before letting anybody hear it.

What song would I like people to hear first?

I’d love for them to hear ‘Baby away’. That song means a lot to me as it’s the first song I recorded and released as Catch. 

What inspired you to make that song?

‘Baby away’ – I missed my family, friends and home a lot during the making of this song. I was in a real reflective mood, there had been a lot of drama going on around me and I just let it all out in this song.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

I think the majority of my songs are vulnerable. I embrace the pain now.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

I  have never actually performed as Catch, I’ll let you know next year after Wireless. 

What is your favourite song to perform?

As it stands, the song that I would love to perform would be ‘July August’.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

My older brothers actually, they loved Rap music; I then fell in love with it. I’ve always had a relationship with music though, always been able to put rhymes together or beat box or make a beat.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

My real name is my Rap name, just spelled differently.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

If I’m being honest, I don’t think I’d be doing anything positive as sad as that sounds. Music saved me, I’m just being real; it gives me hope 

What’s success to you?

Happiness I’d say. Happiness with the people you love, doing the things you love. Prison, feeling like a let down, feeling like an idiot. I came out on a mission, determined and I’m sticking to that. Wish me luck!
