VIPER PRESENTS: SONGER INTERVIEW [2026 FEATURE]

SONGER INTERVIEW: Following a monumental 2025 that saw him surpass 100 million streams, secure a string of certifications, and achieve a top 40 chart placement, Reading rapper Songer is kicking off the new year by returning to his creative foundations. His latest single, ‘BONES’, is a stripped-back, golden-era-inspired release built around a Jazz-infused, old-school production. The track finds the 25-year-old artist revisiting his roots, expertly blending the introspective lyricism and sharp punchlines that have cemented his reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting musical forces.
In his own words, ‘BONES’ is an ultra-nostalgic track that serves as a powerful reminder of why he first picked up a pen. It follows an incredible run of live success—including selling out tours in minutes across Australia and New Zealand, headlining London’s O2 Kentish Town, and tearing up stages at Glastonbury, Boomtown, and Leeds Festival. Beneath the massive streaming numbers of hits like ‘Toxic’ and ‘Vino Bandit’ lies an artist deeply committed to storytelling and emotional honesty. VIPER caught up with Songer to discuss his creative process, navigating vulnerability, and the pivotal life choices that shaped his journey.
What five words define your sound?
Honest, Deliberate, Braggadocios, Vulnerable and Fearless.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
I don’t know if it’s entirely unique but I will know in the first 15 minutes of a session whether I will write something worthwhile or whether I will tie myself up in knots and its just doing something else and trying again tomorrow.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
I think the first song I’d ask people to listen to would be ‘Orange (Soul Food)’ from ‘The Sunrise Project’. I think a lot of people have pre-conceived ideas of what type of artist I am, but that’s a song that properly feels like me.
What inspired you to make that song?
Usually it’s something that happens in a day, or things happening in life that end up with an urge to just write, each song is a blueprint of however I was feeling at that exact time.
