Underdogs Win Eventually — Track-by-Track Breakdown
1. Small Circles (feat. Leon Thomas)
‘Small Circles’ is one of the few songs me and Leon actually made in the studio together. We’re so used to working remote. He was like you need to rap on some shit like this. ‘Small Circles’ was made during Grammy week. There were a lot of heavy hitters who were all nominated for awards in the room, but still small circle, an elect few. The song felt like an initiation. Transitioning from my old life to a new journey. Closing the door on my past. “I tried to take them to the top wit me, I still wanna see them win, but just not wit me.”
2. 100% (feat. Leven Kali)
‘100%’ was a record Shawn sent me. It was out of my comfort zone which is exactly why I cut it. I had just moved into a new crib, just signed my record deal, and publishing deal. It was just about new energy. “Circumstances kept trying, ain’t no stopping us.”
3. Locked TF In
‘Locked TF In’ was a record I wrote during my unreachable phase. “We ain’t really friends, so don’t ask me where I been, you should know just been locked tf in.” I was running five miles a day, I cut out drinking, and was writing three or four songs a day. I paid attention to who stopped checking on me during that season, and kept it pushing with those that did.
