V’GHN INTERVIEW: Grenadian artist, V’ghn is one of the new wave of Caribbean performers redefining what it means to come from the region musically, fusing Soca, Afrobeats, R&B, and Dancehall influences. Get familiar…
What five words define your sound?
Versatile, unpredictable, authentic, love, passion.
Tell me something unique about your creative process
I think what’s unique about my creative process is the time and effort I put into getting things right.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘POV’
What inspired you to make that song?
My life thus far inspired me to write that song. My struggles, my achievements, my family.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
The most vulnerable I’ve been are on the songs ‘Story’ and ‘POV’ and another one called ‘No Fs To Give’ – I think I’m very open musically.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
I think every time I stepped on stage is a moment to harness and hold for life, just getting the love I get most times. Worst moments were probably when I was younger performing and no one was paying attention to me and some were actually telling me get off.
What is your favourite song to perform?
Favourite song to perform might be ‘Jab Decisions’ at the moment.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
Alicia Keys – ‘No One’, most Michael Jackson songs and Chris Brown’s.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
It’s honestly a name I made up based on my real name but always wanted to be the only one with my name and wanted it to be unique so I created the spelling.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
Probably would be playing football, a visual artist or a doctor.
What’s success to you?
Success to me is being able to take care of yourself and the people you love and still being able to serve God the best way you can. Having control of your time to do what you desire in life.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
My first manager turned his back on me when I was 17 years old and tried to force me into paying him 100K, knowing I had no money or any real means of paying it. That was a big turning point mentally for me!

Jevaughn John, more widely known as V’ghn, is a Grenadian singer, songwriter, and producer at the forefront of a new wave of Caribbean artists. He is known for blending a variety of genres, including soca, afrobeats, R&B, and dancehall, to create a unique and modern sound. V’ghn’s career took off with his 2018 hit single, “Trouble in the Morning,” which has become a carnival classic and a Groovy Soca anthem. The song’s success led to a second-place finish in the 2018 Grenada Groovy Soca Monarch and a historic third-place finish in the 2019 International Soca Monarch in Trinidad and Tobago, marking the first time a Grenadian artist had placed in the top three. His music is defined by his soulful and powerful vocal range, commanding stage presence, and lyrical storytelling. V’ghn’s more recent track, “Jab Decisions,” became a significant cultural talking point during this year’s Grenada SpiceMas, further cementing his status as a key voice in Grenadian music. V’ghn recently signed a 10-song deal with London-based EGA Distro Ltd, a label under Virgin Records. His forthcoming EP, Point of View, released on August 29, 2025, continues to showcase his versatility with collaborations featuring UK artist Not3s and producer Travis World. V’ghn’s journey from a young performer in Grenada to a globally recognized artist and advocate is a testament to his talent, hard work, and business savvy.
