What five words define your sound?
Soundgasm, Soulful, Spiritual, Conscious, Happy.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
My creative process as a producer is completely different from my process as an artist. When I’m producing, I never finish a beat in one go. I always start with either the drums or keys, but I can’t complete it until I lay down some vocals. I have to feel the energy, so I record something on every beat I make. That extra layer of emotion helps me figure out where the beat needs to go. As an artist, it’s all about the vibe. No matter how amazing a beat sounds, I can’t just hop on it unless it makes me feel something, happiness, sadness, deep reflection. The music has to pull something out of me before I can put something into it.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘One More Night’.
What inspired you to make that song?
I was inspired by ‘Dilemma’ by Nelly and Kelly Rowland. I love classics from legends like Lauryn Hill and Michael Jackson, and I always try to infuse those timeless elements into my Afrobeats sound.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
Honestly, I’m always vulnerable when I create. Every song is a reflection of what I’m feeling at that moment.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
My best experience? Performing in Portugal for the first time in front of 17,000 people! Big shoutout to my brother Richie Campbell for bringing me out. The energy was insane. I was nervous at first, but the crowd’s reaction made me feel right at home. I can’t say I’ve had a “worst” experience on stage. I’ve been blessed with great moments.
What is your favourite song to perform?
‘One More Night’, ‘Slow Motion’ and ‘Kel-P Vibes’.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
Lauryn Hill’s ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ had a huge impact on me. I also grew up listening to Akon, Wyclef Jean and Drake.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
It’s actually from my real name! Kel comes from Kelvin, and P is from Peter. Fun fact – I’m a twin! My brother’s name is Paul.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I’d probably be in the crude oil business or playing basketball.
What’s success to you?
Success isn’t just about money. It’s about seeing my family happy and being able to do what I love every single day. That, to me, is real success.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
I wouldn’t say I ever changed direction – I’ve just evolved. I’m still on the same journey, just learning, growing, and building every step of the way.
