What five words define your sound?

Soulful, Classic, Intentional, Versatile, Intelligent.

Tell me something unique about your creative process

Something unique about my creative process would be my approach to starting a song. I tend to run with the first melodies or ideas that come to me instinctively. Throughout my songwriting journey I now like to trust my instincts and go from there.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

This song is unreleased.. but I’ve got a song called ‘Turn Down The Lights’ which I think represents my vocal ability, and all my influences musically growing up are definitely in the bloodstream of the song. It’s definitely one of the first ones I play to people.

What inspired you to make that song?

This song represents the distance between two people and the chorus is the release of wanting to put it aside to try and remember why you want that person. I was feeling the frustrations of being in a relationship with someone who was creating distance, writing this song was more therapy initially than anything else. 

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music? 

I feel like every time I step into the studio I am able to be vulnerable. I’m a very open and emotional person so I get to pour my heart into everything I create. It’s a blessing a curse. 

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Supporting Peter Collins was a crazy night. The audience were vibes, singing everything back to me. It was crazy. Definitely a show I’ll always remember.

What is your favourite song to perform?

My favourite song to perform at the moment is an unreleased track called ‘7:21’. Which will be part of my first EP.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

Growing up Jill Scott was a massive part of my life. Her music and the soul made me want to perform. Tori Kelly’s live vocals also inspired me to want to be a vocalist. 

What’s the meaning behind your name?

My artist name is actually my real name. I wanted to keep it because I’ve been singing on stages since being a little girl and everyone’s always referred to me by my name so it felt right. Also my surname is a palindrome which I think is really cool.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I trained in dance growing up, so if I wasn’t singing I would’ve liked to be a professional dancer for R&B/hip-hop artists. 

What’s success to you?

Success for me is to get to a place where I feel present. It’s very easy to get caught up in life and miss it all. 

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

If I’m being honest, I went through a really bad breakup. My whole life changed and music is the only thing that got me and is getting me through it.
