[EVENT] AFROPUNK LONDON: FIVE ACTS TO LOOK OUT FOR
AFROPUNK is set to hit London’s Alexandra Palace this weekend for the first time in its short history, in what will be a truly amazing showcase of musical talent from around the world. With Grace Jones set to headline the star studded event the festival, which celebrates multiculturalism, diversity and oneness through music and vibes, has all the bases covered and there will certainly be an artist for everybody.
Here are just five acts you will want to see at AFROPUNK this weekend.
SZA
The first lady of TDE, SZA has chosen AFROPUNK London as her first UK show, and we are excited to see her. A truly soulful young woman, her take on alternative R&B is intense but rewarding, and you really identify with the St. Louis singer in the end. She will be laying down some serious vibes in her debut UK show.
Loyle Carner
I saw Loyle Carner at Outlook Festival earlier this month, and he was super dope. His calm and composed approach to music translated to the stage as his deeply personal lyricism, over the grooviest production, quickly touched the crowd’s hearts. The South London emcee also has stories for days, so expect heartfelt rhymes and a joyful mood when Carner hits the stage.
Goldlink
We’re going to have our dancing shoes on when the Soulection stage calls for GoldLink. The Washington, D.C. artist has created a lane all for himself with his nod to nostalgic 90s hip-hop and R&B, but with a futuristic twist, but there is so much more to him. Using his platform to tackle social issues, GoldLink’s music is as varied as is imaginable. Expect to lose yourself in the rhythm with this unique young man.
Jorja Smith
The Walsall-born singer/songwriter is on everybody’s radar after a number of singles captured the minds and hearts of the nation. Smith’s gorgeous vocals have shone on every track she touches, as recently demonstrated in her assist on Cadenza’s ‘Everyday People’. The 19-year-old is set to shine when she reaches the Soulection stage at AFROPUNK, and we can’t wait.
Soulection
Anywhere Soulection goes, a party is also near. The pioneers of future beats, the LA collective is one of the hardest working in the game, with a truly dynamic team of curators, beatmakers and visionaries. Curating their own stage for the AFROPUNK spectacle, DJs Hannah Faith, Joe Kay, Sivey and IAMNOBODI will be on duty for the crew on the weekend, and that is one party you don’t want to miss.
