DECA OTA INTERVIEW: VIPER PRESENTS [FEATURE] BOLD ENGAGING INTERVIEW 2026

DECA OTA INTERVIEW: A pivotal figure in the new guard of London Hip Hop, Deca OTA is far more than just a rapper; he is a visionary architect of his own creative ecosystem. Representing the dual influences of his upbringing in Grahame Park and Newham, Deca has spent years refining a storytelling reflex that captures the multi-dimensional pulse of the city. Since his official inception in 2021, he has navigated the industry with a fierce commitment to independence, establishing his own label, Free Imprint, alongside collaborators Rosen and Afu to champion artistic freedom over conventional industry norms.
Deca’s rise has been defined by a rare blend of underground grit and global ambition. His incendiary debut, Far From Average, laid the foundation for a run of infectious singles that have resonated far beyond the capital. With breakout tracks like Through The Fire amassing millions of streams, he has garnered respect and co-signs from UK heavyweights such as Knucks, Blanco, and Nemzzz. His sound is a sophisticated marriage of vibrant jazz textures and dark, nostalgic Hip Hop—a sonic backdrop that allows his explorations of faith, resilience, and redemption to take centre stage.
As a collective leader, Deca OTA’s influence extends into building infrastructure for the next generation, aiming to elevate his community through collaboration and integrity. Whether he is rubbing shoulders with international talent like Ryan Trey or cultivating the burgeoning scene in South London, Deca remains a grounded and purposeful force, proving that the most powerful narratives are those forged on one’s own terms.
What five words define your sound?
Honest, introspective, explorative, free, emotive.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
I write all of my lyrics in an irregular arrangement. I don’t write the verses line by line, I just put a multitude of random lyrics that come into my head into a note then attach it like a jigsaw puzzle, keeping in mind the conclusion of the story I have in mind before writing.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
I would like them to hear ‘Through The Fire’, as it delves into the events that inspired me to take my music into the direction it’s in today.
What inspired you to make that song?
My own personal spiritual awakening after what I can only describe as an encounter with God.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when making music?
When creating my album ‘The Human Condition’. I made it a mission to challenge myself on this project and get out of my comfort zone, I hope that has been noticed in some way.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
The first time I performed, the nerves got to me and it was difficult to stay focused. I’ve never been a very outgoing person, I’ve always just been that guy that likes to make music and go home, so performances were definitely something completely out of my comfort zone at the time. It was a great learning opportunity though and I don’t really have nerves when performing anymore.
What is your favourite song to perform?
Probably the acoustic rendition of ‘Through The Fire’, as it has all of the instrumentation synonymous with classic worship music. Something I never grew up listening to, that I later became enamoured by later into my life. I was glad that ‘Through The Fire’ was able to be brought into that world, and it’s my favourite rendition of the song to perform.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
I’m inspired by guys like MF DOOM, Masta Ace, Big L, Knucks, and most notably my older brother, who was the first one to start making music in my family.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I honestly do not see myself doing anything other than music. This is my calling. I feel like there’s nothing I would want to do other than this, but if I had to choose it would most likely be managing other artists.
What’s success to you?
Success is ending it all knowing that I made the Lord proud. I realised a few years ago that the chase for accolades and acclaim could only do so much to fulfil you both mentally and spiritually. Since then, I’ve only been seeking The Lord’s favour as a criteria for my own personal success.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
The moment I was baptised and gave my life to Christ, that was the moment everything changed for me. Artistically, it was the pivotal turning point in my life.
Where can people keep in touch with you?
