What five words define your sound?
Tasteful, unique, musical, elegant, individual.
Tell me something unique about your creative process…
I believe that the saxophone is like another vocal on the track that doesn’t need words to make you feel it. I always record the saxophone after writing the lyrics and knowing exactly the feeling which I’m aiming to evoke.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
My new song ‘Mona Lisa’
What inspired you to make that song?
‘Mona Lisa’ was inspired by silent connections, the feeling of unaddressed infatuation and intimacy.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
Probably my song ‘I Found Love’. This is a song about finding love in the people and things around you rather than romantic connections. I think in times where you feel low or lost it’s hard to recognise what is right in front of you – and this song was about recognising all the people in my life who have been there for me through it all.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
I first wanted to start learning the saxophone when I heard Kenny G play in my mums car as a child. I think that is where I first fell in love with the saxophone sound but this taste has developed over the years, and my love for instrumental music combined with house music sonics is where I feel most inspired.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
You’ll have to ask my mum that question…
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
If I wasn’t making music I’d probably have done something with my Economics degree or pursued more in the modelling/TV space.
What’s success to you?
I take success on a day to day basis. If I wake up and am happy and the people I care about are happy, I am successful.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
I would say the moment that inspired me to make my first song was definitely a huge turning point for me. Feeling so compelled to make a song and people connecting with it is what inspires me to continue on my path.
