GWAMZ INTERVIEW: Rising South West London artist Gwamz is quickly becoming one of the most exciting names in the UK’s new-gen afro-bounce scene. His July EP, ‘Life of the Party’ doesn’t just showcase range,  it cements his identity, with nods to Gwamz’s Ghanaian heritage, his South London roots, and a wider global sound but never loses its personal edge. Get familiar…

What five words define your sound?

Bounce. Energy. Smooth. Honest. UK.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

The beat leads everything. I don’t write without feeling the rhythm first. The melody and flow come after the beat speaks.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘Like this’. It shows Afro-Bounce clearly. It carries the energy and smoothness I want people to know me for.

What inspired you to make that song?

The beat gave me the bounce straight away. I wanted something fresh, playful, and true to my sound.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

‘Last Night’. It’s reflective. I had to show vulnerability. I didn’t hide behind the bounce.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Best is hearing a crowd go absolutely crazy and singing back my own lyrics to me word for word. Worst has been where the audience have just stood there and not even done a little bop. Never wanted to get off a stage so bad.

What is your favourite song to perform?

‘Like this’. It lifts the room straight away.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

H.E.R ‘Volume 1’ and 2. It showed me how much music could connect with you.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

It’s short for my surname. It’s personal and natural to me.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I would probably be in the British Army or doing something in technology.

What’s success to you?

Freedom. Being able to make the music I want and connect with people worldwide.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

I think when i signed my first record deal. It forced me to come out of my shell and be the star that I am meant to be.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

Instagram and TikTok at @gwamzofficial. Spotify and Apple Music under Gwamz.

Rising South West London artist Gwamz is making his boldest statement yet with the release of his new EP, Life of The Party — a vibrant, genre-defining project that lands hot on the heels of his undeniably infectious single “French Tips” featuring Efosa. The amapiano-infused anthem has already received nods of approval across the UK, earning spins from DJ Semtex on Capital XTRA (“brand new banger, Gwamz called French Tips…”) and Ellie Prohan on KISS XTRA (“summer time is loading and Gwamz ain’t playing about… Efosa on there too, it’s called French Tips. Club certified!”).

Life of The Party is Gwamz’s most fully-formed project to date: a seven-track blend of amapiano, afro-fusion, R&B, and hip-hop that captures both the chaos and clarity of young adulthood. It’s bold, fun, emotionally layered, and completely in its own lane.

The EP lands off the back of “French Tips” featuring Efosa, an amapiano-laced anthem that’s already been co-signed by DJ Semtex (Capital XTRA) and Ellie Prohan (KISS).Opener and lead single “HOT GURLZ” sets the tone with pure bounce, while standout “VIBRATE”  brings in female rap-riser and hotly-tipped BXKS. Elsewhere, tracks like “YAGI” slow the pace and dig deeper, revealing the other side of the party, quieter, more introspective, and emotionally honest.

Fresh from a sold-out UK tour supporting Skeete (including stops at The Lower Third and Islington Assembly Hall), Gwamz is quickly becoming one of the most exciting names in the UK’s new-gen afro-bounce scene. This EP doesn’t just showcase range,  it cements his identity, with nods to Gwamz’s Ghanaian heritage, his South London roots, and a wider global sound but never loses its personal edge.
