JASTIN MARTIN INTERVIEW: VIPER PRESENTS [FEATURE] BOLD ENGAGING INTERVIEW 2025

JASTIN MARTIN INTERVIEW

JASTIN MARTIN INTERVIEW: The R&B landscape is shifting, and Jastin Martin is one of the brightest new architects. With a voice that blends raw, soulful emotion with a modern, unapologetic edge, the Houston native is carving out her own space. Get familiar…

What five words define your sound?

Raw, vulnerable, true, melodic, emotive.

Tell me something unique about your creative process

I tend to be an introverted creative, so I only like to write and record when I am secluded in my own space. I’m most comfortable that way, which is one of many reasons I’ve learned to do a lot of things myself, i.e. record myself.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

I always say ‘Again ‘24 Extended’ because I always knew it was special, it’s a universal feeling that can be received by anyone on first listen. It also showcases my songwriting really well with the strong opening line and chorus.

What inspired you to make that song?

To make a long story short, I was dating someone in college and ended up finding out they had been lying to me the entire time and had actually re-entered a relationship with their “Ex” girlfriend without my knowledge.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

There’s been times where I’ve cried while writing certain songs and even questioned, “Do I really want to say this or admit to this while the world listens?” Those are definitely the most vulnerable moments for sure.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

The best experience I’ve had on stage would have to be when I performed in London this year and the crowd sang my song literally word for word, then a fan sent me a glass of red wine – my favourite – to the stage. So much love in London!

What is your favourite song to perform?

My favourite song to perform used to be ‘reassurance’. It’s a really feel good, positive song with a nice vibe/bounce to it but as of now I’d have to say ‘Weird’. For some reason I just go to another place when I perform ‘Weird’ live.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

Jhene Aiko has definitely inspired my writing style, and just inspired me as an artist overall. Jhene is one of those artists whose lyrics and messages are so clear and emotive that you can’t help but to feel it as if you were going through exactly what she’s saying. And I love to know that my music now makes listeners feel the same way.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

I go by my real name, many think it’s a stage name but nope.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I would most likely be a fitness trainer or a workout influencer, something in that realm.

What’s success to you?

Success is waking up to another day that you’re healthy and able to go after everything you want and dream of. And personally, success for me is being able to do what I love, my true passion, which is write songs and make music, for a living.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

When I dropped out of college, I gave myself no other option but to be a successful artist.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

You can find me on all platforms @Jastin Martin
