[FEATURE] VIPER PRESENTS: RONZO

With London-born rapper Ronzo’s hotly-anticipated debut project on the way, VIPER caught up with him to discuss his creative process and why he decided to discuss topic most rappers would shy away from…

What five words define your sound?

Motivation. Realness. Ambition. Truth. Authenticity.

Tell me something unique about your creative process

I get writer’s block for ages but when it goes I can literally sit there and write track after track. It’s like I have to go through life experiences then it all comes out when I least expect it; there’s no telling when it comes and goes.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘All That Matters’, because for me this was a fresh start. Coming back after having a break from music due to going through a hard time in my life, getting back on my feet to the point I felt comfortable enough to get back in the booth. A lot of growth happened between that song and the one before it (‘Nothing To Me’) and you can literally hear that in the music.

What inspired you to make that song?

I lost everything and more just before that song and around the time of all that I was just bouncing back, getting on my feet again, gaining confidence and feeling good about myself. Definitely a big moment for me personally.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

I have an unreleased freestyle where I talk about how I was burgled, kidnapped and betrayed and I know a lot of rappers could not do this. They won’t tell you about the times they have been violated or taken a loss, they will only tell you about their wins and the good parts.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

I still haven’t been on stage but I can’t wait for that day. There’s no rush because you can’t rush greatness, I know when the time’s right the time’s right. All in due time.

What is your favourite song to perform?

Like I say I still haven’t performed but ‘All That Matters’ is personally my favourite song so far.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

For me when I heard 50 Cent’s ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin” and ‘The Massacre’, I fell in love with Rap… but what made me write myself was a lad a couple years older than me from my estate. I’ll never forget the day he started rapping in front of me, I was actually so amazed I went home that night and started writing myself.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

People called me RONZ growing up I just added the O.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

What’s success to you?

Freedom, health and family. Being able to see my daughter smile everyday. Everything else is a bonus.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

Meeting my manager Nick. I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason and our paths just crossed in a restaurant on a night out. I know my worth and believe in myself but he definitely gives me the extra push needed and constantly reminds me that I need to focus and take my music seriously. BIG LUV NICK MY BRUDA ! ❤️
