[FEATURE] VIPER PRESENTS: N3WYRKLA

Rapid-rising New Jersey artist, N3WYRKLA, is building momentum as one of the most intriguing and naturally reactive artists in the US alternative scene right now, get to know her better with this VIPER interview…

What five words define your sound?

Refreshing. Experimental. Honest. Weird. Original.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

I’m very hands on with production. I like all my beats to be made in person at the start of the studio session to curate and catch a vibe when writing.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘Forgot to Mention’. It’s on my EP, ‘it’s not you, it’s me’. The subject matter is very honest and I love the drums on it.

What inspired you to make that song?

Being outside and getting caught up at the wrong moment [laughs]. The song is essentially about having someone at home, but getting caught in the moment with someone else you met outside.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

When writing, ‘Not Enough…’ another song off my upcoming EP. It was the first song I had ever written a couple of years ago, so I was just trying something new.

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
My first ever performance was the Roots Picnic. I would consider it my best so far. I had fun and the crowd seemed to be having a positive reaction, even with me having no music out and them hearing it for the first time.

What is your favourite song to perform?

My favourite song I haven’t performed yet, but I feel like it would be my latest single ‘it don’t hit no more’.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

I would have to say Miley Cyrus. Her ‘Bangers’ album was a moment, it was different from what a lot of artist were making at that time.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

So my government name is Nyla… N-Y-L-A. Which is N3WYRKLA [laughs]. I used the 3 instead of E because my initials are N.N.N.

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

Possibly photography or something fashion related. I love taking photos.

What’s success to you?

Success to me is waking up and being happy with my life and what I do. Also, being able to uplift my friends and family with what I do.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

Failing in school. Before I was making music I was going to college for pre-law. After making some wrong decisions and failing my first year, it was a wakeup call for me to figure out what I really was passionate about, music.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

Definitely my socials. I feel like Im pretty good with keeping people updated on their about new music and whats going on.
