With his debut mixtape ‘El Tranquilo’ due in April, VIPER caught up with North London based rapper Armando Spence…
What five words define your sound?
Gutter, Glamorous, Fly, Heavy and Luxurious.
Tell me something unique about your creative process
All my verses are off the top of my head.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
Released, ‘Big City Player’, Unreleased, ‘Thug For It’.
What inspired you to make that song?
The feeling of wanting to have all the pressure, hate and scrutiny of being the biggest and best rapper in a major city like London, when most people shy away from something like that.
What’s the best experience you’ve had on stage?
Best experience was just to be on stage and have the crowd showing love. Worst experience was finishing the performance.
What is your favourite song to perform?
I’ve only performed once and the song that got a good reception was an unreleased one.
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
No particular song, artist or album inspired me to make music, more so my own personal experiences, reality and desires made me want to.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
My name is my name. Word to Pusha T.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
I’d see myself either having some involvement in high fashion or I would have continued in sports but in a more business-oriented way.
What’s success to you?
Success to me is just being able to do whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want, wherever the hell you want, however the hell you want.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
When I actually decided that I want to be a rapper/artist.
