Grammy nominated artist Strick recently launched a sneaker collab with Conzuri. The North Carolina native was signed by YSL and Atlantic in 2018 and has worked with Young Thug, Travis Scott, Future, A$AP Rocky and Future, get to know him better with this VIPER interview..

What five words define your sound?

Authentic. Sophisticated. Melodic. Insightful. Inspiring. 

Tell me something unique about your creative process? 

I only listen to the first 8-10 seconds of a beat before selecting or skipping it. I instantly know if it’s me. 

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

I’m actually usually more curious to see what song people discover first when they find out about me but ‘Moon Man’ is a close first choice. 

What inspired you to make that song? 

I was inspired by wanting to really take my sound up a level. Working with Kid Cudi and Young Thug definitely had me in a different zone. It really clicked. 

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music? 

Currently my new album I’m working on. Really being my authentic self. 

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage? 

The sound going out mid performance of the last song of my set on tour was the worst but we vibe. I’ve had soooo many best experiences I can’t count. Really blessed to be on stage. 

What is your favourite song to perform? 

‘Wokstar’ and usually the newest song I’ve recorded. 

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music? 

‘All Eyes On Me’ by Tupac. 

What’s the meaning behind your name? 

It’s my name [laughs]. My last name is Strickland so the Strick has always been a nickname I’ve had. 

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead? 

I’d be working on other passions I have, fashion and film. I’ve also just collaborated on a sneaker with Conzuri for 2024. 

What’s success to you? 

Being able to provide for myself and my family all while doing something I love!

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction? 

My close friend / brother passed away and he believed in me so much, I thought since he passed so young I have to do whatever I can to try and take it to the next level. Almost like completing what we started. That’s a big motivation!
