What five words define your sound? 

Sensual, Soulful, Pop, Powerful and New.

Tell me something unique about your creative process.

Well I don’t know if it’s unique because I feel most musicians do it but I mumble and record until words come out and I will do one line over and over for three hours until I like it.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first? 

‘Bad Gyal’

What inspired you to make that song? 

I just felt super confident and sexy and decided I wanted to have that energy in one song

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music? 

I’d say to the point where I’ll sing my own lyrics and cry. Music is my get away, my vacation. It brings me life and good feeling without it I’d be sooo ruined. 

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

The best feeling I had on stage was at Sumfest it was so surreal to me and the worst, I’d say I have none! I love being on stage doing what I love.

What is your favourite song to perform? 

Well before ‘Bad Gyal’, I’d say my hit song ‘Bye Bitch’.

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music? 

I’d say I don’t have an artiste, it’s more my mommy. I wanted to be like her; A true creative.

What’s the meaning behind your name? 

Well my name was given by my mom and Monifa means “young singer,” – she knew exactly what she was doing!

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead? 

I don’t know [laughs[, I really don’t! All I can say is I’m a business woman, so I’d definitely have my own business in something. Maybe something in beauty and cosmetics.

What’s success to you? 

Success to me is when an individual is satisfied and content with all their achievements and feel as if they have done it all

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction? 

To be honest, I can’t say I’ve ever changed my direction. Music has been a fixed decision since I was very young. I’m doing what I’ve always wanted to do from the jump, I do what I love.
