What five words define your sound?
Afro, smooth, articulate, cohesive and authentic.
Tell me something unique about your creative process.
I write my verses backwards, so I’ll start by writing the last bar of every eight bar, then I create the rest of the verse around the last bar.
Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?
‘Shot Caller’
What inspired you to make that song?
I was on the phone to my cousin in my living room and we were discussing business ideas. During the conversation, the instrumental for ‘Shot Caller’ was playing in the background and naturally the idea of entrepreneurship/ being a shot caller just came to me.
What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?
‘What’s Love’ because it was very anti-relationships. It let people in my life know where I stood.
What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?
The best experience was performing on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading festival because the crowd was very engaged! In terms of the worst, there hasn’t really been a bad experience yet.
What is your favourite song to perform?
‘Shot Caller’
Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?
People like Teeway, Dave and Headie One first inspired me to make music.
What’s the meaning behind your name?
TS are my initials and Lagga is a name that I was called by my friends, it means money.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?
Running my own business.
What’s success to you?
When you’ve achieved what you set out to achieve, it’s subjective to each person.
What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?
I spent a lot of time in isolation at school, so I had a lot of free time. My isolation room had a headset and a laptop, so I started making music to pass the time. I actually made ‘What’s Love’ in isolation.
