[FEATURE] MY FAVOURITE MIXTAPE: KITSCHKRIEG

Fresh off the release of their new single with NEMZZZ, multi-platinum super producers Kitschkrieg stop by to tell us all about their favourite mixtape… but plot twist: it’s an album 😅

What’s your favourite mixtape ever?

You know we are a band of three people and to answer this question is nearly impossible, we discussed and by now, we are close to breaking up. This might be our last interview. Ever. But to answer the question:

Awhodat: ‘Culture’ by the Migos

Fiji: ‘Culture II’ by the Migos

Fizzle: ‘Culture III’ by the Migos

Why is it so significant to you?

The black Beatles. How can these not be your favourite albums? The Migos introduced us to ATL on a whole different level. You can hear these albums over and over again and they just keep getting better. There are so many hits and legendary bars on this. Ask anybody who really knows about music, we don’t think you will find anyone who doesn’t like the Migos and ‘Culture 1,2,3’.

Were there any artists or producers that you discovered through this tape?

With the span of this trilogy you can dive into ATL really deep, but if you wanna boil it down to one name: Metro Boomin. ‘Bad & Boujee’. Also maybe the first time we really digged what Uzi was doing to be honest 🙂 What a hit record. So beautiful and on point.

Where exactly were you when you heard the mixtape for the first time?

We listened to ‘Culture’ on our way to Splash Festival in the year of 2017, which was the year before our big breakthrough and success in Germany. You could already feel that something was about to happen with KitschKrieg and ‘Culture’ was the soundtrack to this summer. It fueled us with the right energy to get it. It was like DJ Khaled was talking to us and saying “KitschKrieg” in the intro to ‘Culture’… LOL. It worked!

Did it come into your life at a significant time?

Yes. It was finally happening for us, after years of struggling we got our shit together and we felt unstoppable at this time. We were always listening to the album, it has this “let’s get it” energy all over the project, cause they were getting it on a whole other level. Just beautiful, the moment was big for us and this was the soundtrack to it.

How did the mixtape cover make you feel?

Tbh it wasn’t a big factor on this one. Even though we are really heavy on the visual shit for our stuff the ‘Culture’ trilogy is simply about the music. It’s something you can always listen to and feel better after you did. Try it. Works every time. If not, you are weird.

Describe the mixtape in three words?

Bad and Boujee.

What song is your personal favourite?

The beauty of this is that your favourite song always changes because there are so many good ones on there. ‘T-Shirt’, ‘Bad & Boujee’, ‘Get Right Witcha’, ‘Stir Fry’, ‘Walk it Talk it’, ‘Straightenin`’, ‘Handle My Business’…. The list goes on.

If you could put a price on this mixtape, how much would you pay?

Impossible. IMPOSSIBLE.

Did you have a physical copy?

No, we all stopped collecting physical copies a few years ago. It feels better to “live light” and being able to listen to whatever you want, everywhere you are. Also for work it’s just better, “be light.” Don’t carry all the shit, it’s a good hack. Minimalism not only works in our music, it also works in our lives.
