[FEATURE] VIPER PRESENTS: SAMRECKS

SAMRECKS is a Nigerian-born south-east London native and one of the most eye-catching new names in Rap this past year…

What five words define your sound?

REKKI, soulful, chill, skippy, mood.

Tell me something unique about your creative process?

Don’t really have one.

Which song of yours would you like people to hear first?

‘Love & Attention’

What inspired you to make that song?

Working six days a week, coming out of a relationship and realising dreams are worth more than money.

What’s the most vulnerable you’ve allowed yourself to be when writing/making music?

In all my songs I express everything about how I feel so I’d say I do this in every piece I put out there, most especially on my EP ‘Easier Said Than Done’

What’s the best/worst experience you’ve had on stage?

Being on stage for the first time was the best experience, just seeing how people were vibing to my songs.

What is your favourite song to perform?

‘Don’t Tell No One’

Which artist/song/album made you want to make music?

I’d say it was a collective of artists but the whole grime era and the early J Cole, Kendrick and Drake era is what made me fall in love with music.

What’s the meaning behind your name?

I was always in the wrong places at the wrong time and getting in trouble growing up, that’s where the recks comes from. It was originally “reckless” but shortened down to “recks.”

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing instead?

I’d be an artist, exploring the world, drawing the things I see.

What’s success to you?

Achieving targets, I set myself, each tick off my list gets me closer to success.

What moment in your life/career forced you to change direction?

Being told I’d never make it with music.

Where can people keep in touch with you?

@SamRecks on all my social media accounts
