[STYLE] A JEWELLERS CREATE CUSTOM 1 MILLION DOLLAR ‘ODG’ PIECE FOR BURNA BOY

A Jewellers, the home of contemporary jewellery and exclusive watches at the heart of Hatton Gardens, have crafted one of the most expensive pieces to ever be created for one of the biggest artists in the world, Burna Boy. The Afrobeats legend has been presented with a chain worth over one million dollars, with the A Jewellers team painstakingly crafting the pendant over a six month period.

The work features an ‘ODG’ pendant, an abbreviation of ‘ODOGWU’, the letters of which make up the chain of the overall piece. ‘Odogwu’ means strong man, or man of charisma in the Nigerian language of Igbo. The term has been used to describe Burna by his fans, with the artist releasing a song of the same name back in 2020. A Jewellers and Burna Boy have thus come together to create a statement piece that encapsulates the spirit of the artist, and Burna’s music.

The pendant took over 6 months to manufacture and has over 400 carats of VVS diamonds which  include 100 individual GIA certified 30 pointer stones.  There is a combination of carefully selected round, baguette, Asher & princess cut stones. This makes the custom piece one of the biggest and most expensive of its kind, valued at over 1 million dollars, and demonstrating why A Jewellers is Europe’s number one for celebrity jewellery.

Burna Boy has said of his latest pendant: “Only A Jewellers would be able to create this, you know. Only Abtin. 6 months in the making. This is history. Getting a piece like this is such a blessing. We were inspired by legends and we’ve created something legendary. Already thinking about the next one.”

Abtin Abassi, the founder of A Jewellers, also said: “We’re always proud of the pieces we make, man. So many of them have become pieces of  history, but this is a special one and I’m so happy we created it for my brother Burna. I’m proud to  know him and we appreciate him so much. We work hard to create moments like this. Being able to do this is a beautiful thing. Many more to come. We’re going bigger and better.”

A Jewellers have become synonymous with luxury jewellery since their inception in 2008. Their founder, Abtin Abassi, sold his first piece of jewellery at just 19, and has been changing the game ever since. The business has thus grown from solely Abtin to now spanning a multi-talented team of London’s finest jewellers, meticulously crafting custom pieces from the highest quality materials for a clientele that reads as a who’s who of the rich and famous.

Burna Boy has cemented himself this year as arguably the biggest name in the world of Afrobeats after the release of his latest album, ‘Love, Damini’. Furthermore, his song ‘Last Last’ became the soundtrack of the summer, and his latest piece from A Jewellers is symbolic of his artistic growth and success. The ‘ODOGWU’ chain will no doubt be his biggest pendant to date, and both Burna and A Jewellers will be hoping that this is just a taste of what’s to come.
