[FEATURE] MY FAVOURITE MIXTAPE: JOEY CLIPSTAR

Responsible for one of our favourite freestyle platforms, Hardest Bars, “The Connect” Joey Clipstar celebrates a UK classic, courtesy of South London’s finest, Giggs.

What’s your favourite mixtape ever?

Giggs & Dubz – ‘Ard Bodied’

Why is it so significant to you ?

It’s significant to me because at that time everyone in school was playing it and I knew the mixtape had different individual tunes on it but I was excited to hear the mixtape as one.

Were there any artists or producers that you discovered through this tape?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t discover anyone. But Didz who’s a vocalist on a few tracks, I just anticipated the features.

Where exactly were you when you heard the mixtape for the first time?

My friend got the physical copy and came to my house with it.

Did it come into your life at a significant time?

Yes, it definitely did! It came into my life at a point where me and my friends thought we were rappers! [Laughs] But obviously listening to a mixtape like this really did put us back in our place and made us realise we weren’t as good as we thought we were, good old days!

How did the mixtape cover make you feel?

Defo didn’t make me feel anything, it could have been a lot better but I didn’t care [laughs], I was just excited for the music.

Describe the mixtape in three words?

Classic, Hard, Revolutionary.

What song is your personal favourite?

I don’t have a favourite song because I love them all, it really brings me back to a nostalgic time of being young and so carefree. It takes me back to the good days when life was just parties, kids really just having fun forming into young adults.

If you could put a price on this mixtape, how much would you pay?

£100

Did you have a physical copy?

Nope 🙁

No? Which is your favourite that you have a physical copy of?

Krept & Konan –  ‘RedRum’
